Unleashing the Power of Sound: The Future of Energy Technology is Here!

The vibrations of matter produce sound energy which is a significant source of noise pollution. Despite its prevalence, noise pollution is often disregarded and not repurposed as a source of energy. However, a group of innovative students from Amrita Vidyalayam in Kannur, Kerala, named Vrinda Dev, Aadhidev K, and Sneha, created a device that converts noise pollution into usable energy. The team called it the ATL Sonic Power Saver.

The group conducted surveys among the school’s teachers and staff, which revealed that schools, like other public places, produce a lot of noise pollution that goes to waste. The students recognized the untapped potential of sound waves as a renewable energy source and decided to focus on noise pollution, depletion of non-renewable energy, and wastage of electricity as key problems to address.

The ATL Sonic Power Saver is a mechanical prototype that converts sound waves into electricity. It is a sound-activated solution designed to produce and conserve electricity. The team split the device into three parts and tested it in various noisy environments to prove its effectiveness. The device proved efficient in charging batteries and powering different gadgets and appliances.

To make the ATL Sonic Power Saver more effective, the team included AI sensors to manage the sounds and intelligently control the electrical supply to connected devices and appliances to conserve electricity. The team is also planning to install an AI-based system that collects sound data from classrooms and uses it to compute the daily progression chart of the class.

The ultimate goal of the team is to achieve a ‘Green Campus’ in their school. They aim to create a viable product with commercial value by working on packaging. During the Student Innovator Program with mentors from Amrita TBI, the students learned the importance of teamwork, hard work, and a clear and systematic plan. They also learned how to do a business pitch and illustrate market potential and strategies.

In conclusion, the students’ innovation in creating the ATL Sonic Power Saver is a path-breaking idea that addresses the problem of noise pollution and the wastage of renewable energy.
